Engineers week at st. laurence school, laramie wyoming, 2016
JAG Engineering’s Joe Gulino introduced the 3rd/4th grade class at St Laurence O’Toole to the engineering design process and to the topic of variables.
February 21-27 was Engineers Week. To assist with introducing engineering to 3rd and 4th graders, the University of Wyoming provides materials for building Mint Mobiles. Similar to the Boy Scouts’ Pinewood Derby but with eatable wheels.
The students were allowed design and build cars as they wished with the material provided. The object of the exercise was to get their cars to go as far a possible. Many lessons were learned especially symmetry and the need for all wheels to spin freely for a straight path down the ramp.
