BET (Now Jedi Fab. LLC) Had an Idea.
JAG Engineering Made it a Reality. Railroad coal cars sometimes require their cargo to be partially off loaded. One method requires the use of vacuum trucks. Before Jedi’s concept, the workers would stand on the unstable coal as they vacuumed the coal from the car. Using the Jedi Coal Car Catwalk (CCC-1000), the workers can avoid getting into the coal car and are never out of sight in the event of an emergency or accident. The CCC-1000 travels along the length of the coal car with the manually operated hand wheel. JAG Engineering conducted the preliminary study establishing gearing and center of gravity location to ensure safe operation. This led to the detailed design and analysis completed by JAG Engineering for the finished product. |
Mine Rite Technologies’ of Buffalo WY needed a device similar to the red jack stand supporting the CAT. The yellow unit is the resulting product. The jack stand is used to support the front end of 793 CAT truck when one wheel is removed. Axle load 180,000 lb. The Mine Rite's concept was analyzed and the recommended design changes were incorporated to provide sufficient factor of safety. The device was modeled to simulate harsh loading due to impact or poorly distributed loading due to unleveled ground.

Nortrak Inc. of Cheyenne manufactures railroad turnout assemblies. They designed this in-house lifting device for a special order for individual railroad ties. They needed the design reviewed for strength and safe operation. All components were analyzed for stress and the system for ease of use. Recommendations eliminated high stress areas and improved the safety of the attachment device. With 25 ties per lift there were 50 chances for error in the attachment process. Working in the cold and dark requires a fool proof attachment device. This design saved 500 man-hours per order and maintained worker safety.
